Blake Ibanez of Power Trip returns with a new band, FUGITIVE, and the ‘Maniac’ EP, 4 original tracks of the aggressive pit detonation Thrash he’s known for in Power Trip, with an even rawer and looser ferocity. A cover of the legendary Bathory’s ‘Raise The Dead’ rounds out the succinctly serrated 5 track debut.

Joined by Seth Gilmore (Skourge), Lincoln Mullins (Creeping Death), Victor Gutierrez and Andy Messer, Ibanez and co. cohere in intensely violent crossover fashion with FUGITIVE; a product of long earned experience in the studio and on the stage. A savage Death Metal vocal style, like Power Trip passed through an Obituary meatgrinder, solidifies ‘Maniac’ with the heaviness of a head hitting concrete.

Spinning the raw emotions and unfettered delivery of power pop and emo, California outfit JOYCE MANOR emerged in the late 2000s with a blistering punk sound on their eponymous debut (2011) and follow-up Of All Things I Will Soon Grow Tired (2012). Developing restraint and slowing things down, they took cues from pop-punk and indie rock on their Epitaph label debut Never Hungover Again, which drew upon influences Weezer and Jawbreaker, a maturation that continued on 2016’s Cody and 2018’s Million Dollars to Kill Me.

Based out of Torrance, California, JOYCE MANOR got its start in late 2008, conceived as the acoustic pop-punk duo of Barry Johnson (vocals, guitar) and Chase Knobbe (guitar). That idea didn’t last long, however, and the band ultimately expanded, with friends coming and going until the lineup settled down a year later. JOYCE MANOR return with Songs From Northern Torrance: a collection of b-sides and alternate versions of fan favorites pulled from the band’s personal archives. The album kicks off with 'House Warning Party,' a one-minute blast of lo-fi goodness that offers a glimpse into the band’s humble beginnings as a two-piece folk-punk outfit. Lyrics of suburban angst forge with upbeat drums and swift, jangly guitars that make it impossible to not bounce your head along to. As a band who have come to define West Coast indie-punk, JOYCE MANOR remains one of the most popular bands in the genre and this track is a rarity their fans will surely love.

“He who makes a beast of himself gets rid of the pain of being a man”, as a sage wiser and more debauched than most of us once remarked. Such is the headspace of Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs, whose animalistic headspace is set out by their very moniker, yet who have wasted little time in creating an almighty psychic charge that has blown minds and summoned bedlam in sweat-drenched venues across the UK’s underground and beyond.

Playing their first gig supporting Goat at what was only the latter’s second ever show, the band have gigged relentlessly with kindred spirits including The Cosmic Dead and Luminous Bodies, not to mention gracing festivals like Supernormal and Portugal’s Reverence with their feral attack. Yet the time has come for this band to transcend the realm of word-of-mouth phenomenon and be judged on their feverish and demented collision of psych-drone dementia and riff-driven salvation alone.

The inarguable proof is Feed The Rats, the overwhelming first album the band have created for Rocket Recordings - equal parts righteous repetition, bludgeoning brute force and Sabbathian squalor, its alchemical charge has the power to transform bleary-eyed abandon into small-hours revelation. This three-track, forty-minute monument of chaotic catharsis captures the everything-on-eleven spirit of the band’s live manifestation whilst adding a level of finesse and texture often less easily accessible in a dangerous haze of flying hair, discarded clothes and spilt premium lager. Channeling the grimy trip hazards of Monster Magnet’s ‘Spine Of God’ through a prism of kraut-derived repetition and Part Chimp style bloodymindedness, the resulting hallucinatory vortex appears constantly on the realm of breaking point.

Seven is the magic number. Indeed, not only do psychologists theorise that the human brain can only memorise a sequence of this length, but Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs - the Newcastle-based maximalists whose riffs, raw power and rancour have blazed a trail across the darker quarters of the underground in the last five years - have made a second album in King Of Cowards which does its damnedest to take consciousness to its very limits.

Moreover, another notable seven is dealt with here - that of the deadly sins. As vocalist and synth player Matt Baty notes “For a long time I’ve questioned how and where guilt can be used as a form of oppression. When can guilt be converted into positive action? After typing all of the lyrics up I realised I’d unwittingly referenced every one of the seven deadly sins throughout the album!” Building on the momentum this band has built since their 2017 debut Feed The Rats, this opus sees them entering a new phase as a sleeker and still more dangerous swineherd. The Iggy-esque drive to dementia, Sabbath-esque squalor and Motörhead-style dirt may still be present and correct, yet the songs are leaner, the long-drawn-out riff-fests sharpened into addictive hammerblows and the nihilistic dirges of yore alchemically transformed into an uplifting and inviting barrage of hedonistic abandon.

Turnover - "Myself In The Way" LP

Myself in the Way was born out of Turnover's desire to continue evolving their sound, making each body of work more exploratory than the last, but it's also a byproduct of the band's growth both as individuals and collectively. Armed with a flurry of new ways for the band to express themselves creatively, they challenged themselves to make their most ambitious body of work to date.

Co-produced by frontman Austin Getz alongside frequent collaborator Will Yip, Myself In The Way sounds more expansive than anything they've done, intently honing in on sound design this time around, and yet it's wholeheartedly more intimate and self-reliant on their vision and execution. Bassist Danny Dempsey painted the cover artwork himself, and longtime touring guitarist Nick Rayfield contributed songs to the album to lend an additional spark.

The album also features guest appearances from peers and friends like Bre Morell of Austin-based band Temple of Angels on the track "Ain't Love Heavy," and Turnstile's Brendan Yates on the title track.

Florida hard rock quintet Wage War — Briton Bond [lead vocals], Cody Quistad [rhythm guitar, clean vocals], Seth Blake [lead guitar], Chris Gaylord [bass], and Stephen Kluesener [drums] — have officially announced their fourth full-length Manic (on Fearless Records).

As for the album, Wage War offers, "After a long wait, and endless hours of work, we could not be more ecstatic to announce our new album Manic. We've spent the entire last year working so hard to bring you the best Wage War yet, and we've never been more sure that we've accomplished that."

On Manic, the band masterfully strikes a delicate and well-crafted balance of grooves, riffs, melodies, and electronic flourishes. "Manic encompasses everything we’ve gone through as musicians in the last year-and-a-half," says Kluesener. "The whole industry halted, and we technically lost our jobs. Our scene was among the first to leave and the last to come back. The album captures the whole period."

Stepson pride themselves on having high energy, honest lyrics and emotive music. After 2016’s Fear Me, the band admit that their original intention was to jump straight into the events of Trinity before pivoting to create Homecoming, Flesh and Bones, and Ultima Pluvia. However, upon reflection, primary storywriter Mikey Arthur believes that pushing the timeline back actually provided greater opportunity for the group to properly flesh out the songs and plotlines for their sophomore studio record.

“Trinity, at its core, is a love story,” Arthur explains the dark motivations of the trio. “But it’s also about how terrible love can be. Sometimes, the things that we do for love, really should not be done.”

On the rarest of occasions, there comes along a band that latches on and annihilates your ears with such a unique combination of sounds, you find yourself dislodged from the monotony of every-day music and rooted firmly in the terrain of admiration. Cleveland Ohio’s Ringworm are no strangers to this concept and have been fascinating metalheads with their unorthodox melodies for over 30 years. Now recently signed to Nuclear Blast Records, the guys are preparing to unleash their 9th studio album "Seeing Through Fire."

“We wanted to go with a slightly different approach and look than the previous records, it’s a new era for us,” explains vocalist and founder James Bulloch, also known as the Human Furnace. “It’s a little bit of a return to our roots, you have those moments every so often where you wanna get back to your comfort zone, but at the same time you want to expand that comfortzone. On the production side, we definitely wanted something that was raw, more in your face, and way more sonically abrasive than the last several albums. What started as the band jamming again for a one-off show to celebrate 10 years of their 2010 LP, "As Above So Below", was derailed by Covid into this new release on Last Ride Records. Recorded with Elliott Gallart at Chameleon Studios, "Hell Is Empty" continues Phantoms’ spin on the NYHC crossover style in the vein of Merauder and Ringworm, just with more pop music samples. Hidden away in the isolated piece of the country often referred to as Planet Perth, The Chain have been on a steady incline, establishing themselves as one of the standouts of Australian hardcore's current pack. Recorded in mid 2020 when Perth began to return to some sense of normality and indadvertedly became the hardcore capital of the world, the new self-titled 7" finds The Chain at their most unhinged. "What A Trip" is the result of overcoming adversity. Following the recording and release of their "Waking Up" 7", World View was faced again with obstacles and line up changes, with many expecting it to be the final nail for the band.
