The 2003 release reached number 23 on the Australian ARIA Album Charts and was the band's first entry to the top 100, but not their last. Begins Here stands as a landmark Australian album and is now yours to listen to in the best way ever.

This is Leveler like you've never heard it before! We fully re-recorded the entire album from scratch, changing song tunings, writing new guitar solos, and adding guest performances from Matt Heafy of Trivium, Misha Mansoor of Periphery, and Ryan Kirby of Fit For A King. The album was produced and mixed by Carson Slovak and Grant McFarland, and mastered for vinyl by Will Putney.

GELD make their Relapse Records debut with their third full length, Currency // Castration! The Australian band distills a despairingly hellish vision of the world into a thundering crack to the temple through an unsparing fusion of hardcore’s bleakest violence with metal’s ruthless strength-through-conviction. GELD's abrasive take on the genre is distorted through a lense of fuzzed out psych soundscapes; vocals truly sound like unhinged barks, while guitars, bass, and drums crash against one another frenetically, each track burning brighter and brighter.

Every moment of Currency // Castration is urgent. Tracks such as “Chained to a Gate” edge and scratch at a relief that is ultimately denied, toying with the nightmarish promise of a breakdown that never comes. Elsewhere, "Cut You Down" pulses with frantically itching riffs that stream forth. "Fog of War" snaps and snarls; while "Secret Prison" evinces the honed physique of Japanese hardcore fed through the broken brain of someone on a years-long Rrröööaaarrr-era Voivod spin-out.

Despite the band's innovative approach to the genre, GELD makes no pretensions at being “interesting” for interesting’s sake - As vocalist Al Smith puts it, “One of the most boring things people can do is try to dress up what someone else has already contributed to a genre and make it ‘clever’… We’re more interested in finding our own position” With Currency // Castration, GELD offers no promise of a higher purpose or resolve. Rather, they lean into dissociation, finding truth and meaning in the transcendental joy of simply escaping, surviving, existing.

Here, Hear is an ongoing creative series born in 2007 as a way to deepen understanding of themes and ideas present in proper album releases through added musical and lyrical context for listeners interested in small peeks behind the song writing curtain. 

Changing forms, approaches, and mediums periodically throughout it’s history, the current iteration of the project exists as creative writing prompts introduced and followed by one individual member before being passed along to the others one by one for contribution in a sort of musical game of telephone. The end results are songs written and recorded layer by layer, member by member, all around a central suggestion or restriction, discussed at length on Patreon and via recorded podcast conversations dissecting the experience.

The most recent entry, titled “16,” began with a prompt from bass player Adam Vass called “This Song Will Self-Destruct” where contributing members were challenged to “break” something periodically as the composition progressed. The final product is what you hear: five musicians who took five different approaches to self-destruction, for a host of different reasons, and a song that slowly degrades as it heads toward its end, though it remains fully listenable despite the nature of the prompt.

In partnership with Here, Hear, the last few years have seen the introduction of a new writing exercise called MEANTIME, which flip La Dispute’s standard music-first approach to songcraft in favor of entries constructed by individual instrumentalists around spoken vocal recordings. Born from a desire to remain creatively engaged while apart during COVID shutdown, MEANTIME songs are poems before songs, words written and recorded that come to life sonically only when passed from vocalist Jordan Dreyer to one of the band’s musicians for structure, texture, and mood.

With a mission in mind, SPEED are setting out to put Australian hardcore on the map. The band's new EP, "GANG CALLED SPEED", will be out June 24th Last Ride Records (AUS) and Flatspot Records (USA). Recorded with Elliott Gallart at Chameleon Studios, the six songs on the EP are centered around recognizing who you are in this world, taking ownership of that identity and not letting anyone tell you otherwise. Lead single “NOT THAT NICE” captures the band’s no hold barred approach, highlighted by a blunt vocal delivery and intricate guitar work. The video for the song, filmed and edited by Jack Rudder, serves as a continuation of last year’s massive single “WE SEE U” representing the vibrant world of the Sydney hardcore scene. Each record also contains an etched b-side, featuring a band photo by Jonathan Tumbel.

Baltimore’s End It is telling it like it is on their debut album, Wrong Side Of Heaven, set for release this summer. The hardcore band has built a reputation through being unapologetically outspoken, playing fast, ripping songs, and putting on an electrifying live show. Now they’re ready to enter their next era.

Formed in 2017, the band consists of vocalist Akil Godsey, drummer Chris Gonzalez, guitarist Ray Lee, and bassist Patrick Martin. Signed to Flatspot Records, End It came out strong with the release of their self-titled EP the same year they started, and followed it up with 2020’s One Way Track EP. In the summer of 2022, the band took the hardcore world by storm with their Unpleasant Living EP, solidifying the Baltimore outfit as one of the most exciting acts in the genre. Following the release, End It embarked on a packed touring and festival schedule across North America and Europe, playing alongside No Warning, Terror, Cold World, Drain, Speed, Angel Du$t, Scowl, and many more. The band’s reach goes even farther with breakout single “New Age Slavery” featured on the soundtrack for Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 + 4.

No matter where they are and what they’re doing, End It is true to keeping things authentically them and that shines through on the forthcoming Wrong Side Of Heaven. Entering Salad Days Studio with renowned producer Brian McTernan (Turnstile, Snapcase, Hot Water Music) the band came in with a few demos and wrote the majority of the album during the two month recording process in early 2025. Taking direction from classic hardcore, thrash, and soul music, End It has crafted a 15 song magnum opus centered on “Spreading awareness of the change that’s coming to Americans, personal growth, and maintaining the ethics and integrity of hardcore.”

Busting open with the title track, the band’s thumping, groove-driven rhythms take center stage, and then “Pale Horse” puts Godsey’s charismatic and chaotic vocal delivery on full display. As the record progresses, the growth in End It’s sonic direction is evident with every unique note and distinct riff hitting larger than ever. Godsey’s lyrics not only feel like a gut punch, but serve as a point of self and world examination. From “Billion Dollar Question” - “Who must die, to keep you in your luxury?” - to “Anti-Colonial” - “A better tomorrow for you and me, forever we will scream for those unseen.”

A surprise moment comes in track 14, a cover of Maximum Penalty’s “Could You Love Me.” The New York Hardcore band has served as a huge influence to End It from the beginning, and they give profound justice to the heartfelt track. Closer “Empire’s Demise” has enough bounce for the moshers and delivers an impactful commentary on the current state of America. “250 years. Empires can not last. I hope the end comes quicker than that” exclaims Godsey before the song descends into swirling madness.

While no one can predict the future, End It has created an album that will assuredly stand the test of these uncertain times with Wrong Side Of Heaven.

Like the towering mounds of toxic waste from which it gets its namesake, the music of Oklahoma City noise rock quartet Chat Pile is a suffocating, grotesque embodiment of the existential anguish that has defined the 21st Century. It figures that a band with this abrasive, unrelenting, and outlandish of a sound has stuck as strong of a chord as it has. Dread has replaced the American dream, and Chat Pile’s music is a poignant reminder of that shift – a portrait of an American rock band molded by a society defined by its cold and cruel power systems.

Though very much on-brand with Chat Pile’s signature flavor of cacophonous, sludgy noise rock, the band’s shift to a global thematic focus on Cool World not only compliments the broader experimentations it employs with their songwriting but also how they dissect the album’s core theme of violence. Melded into the band’s twisted foundational sound are traces of other eclectic genre stylings, with examples of gazy, goth-tinged dirges to abrasive yet anthemic alt/indie-esque hooks and off-kilter metal grooves only scratching the surface of what can be heard in the album’s ten tracks.

Besides stylistically stretching the boundaries of the Chat Pile sound, Cool World is also the band’s first record to have someone else handle mixing duties, with Ben Greenberg (Uniform) capturing and further amplifying the quartet’s unmistakably outsider and folk-art edge.

While Chat Pile’s debut album was plenty disturbing with its B-movie-inspired interpretation of a “real American horror story”, what the band depicts on Cool World is unsettling not just from its visceral noise rock onslaught, but from depicting how all sorts of atrocities are pretty much standard parts of modern existence. In film terms, think something like a Criterion arthouse film by way of schlocky grindhouse splatterfest: undeniably gratuitous and thrilling in the moment but leaving a looming dread in the back of one’s mind for how close the horrors depicted mirror reality.
